If you've been watching True Blood, you know a little something about maenads and may even want to dress the part for Halloween.
Sookie-Style has put together a selection of clothes costumes and accessories for all the True Blood characters, so be sure to take a look at all the Maryann maenad costumes for some great ideas to get you started.
Playing the role of a maenad can be lots of fun because they almost seen to have gone mad in an intoxicated frenzy. The female followers of Dionysus and can reak havok on animals and even humans in their ritulistic behavior. In True Blood, Maryann takes over the entire town of Bon Temps in anticipation of pleasing 'The God Who Comes" with an elaborate ceremony and a ritualistic sacrifice.
Maryann dresses in modern clothing that often resemble Grecian gowns, so her style can be easily replicated with a
long halter or maxi dress and a few key accessories to complete the outfit. Maryann wears lots of serpent
and snake jewelry
, as maenads are know to handle or wear snakes in Greek mythology.
She has a thing for human hearts, so a fake, plastic heart would be a great prop.
You'll need long dark hair or a wig that can be tousled or styled wildly with the addition of leaves and twigs from the forest. A crown of flowers would also be a great headpiece for your costume.
Another costume element that you might want to consider is the evil addition of claw finger nails that she was able to grow by digging her hands into the earth.
If you can get a few friends to wear black contacts and follow you around all night acting wildy and filled with sexual desire that would be great too!

One of the memorable scenes of True Blood season 2 was Maryann's Hunter Soufflé, so when I was thinking of recipe and party ideas for the season finale tonight it was the obvious choice. Being a vegetarian (and a civilized person), the addition of a fresh human heart was thankfully out of the question. The ingredients need to a saucy, bloody red with some texture and chunks concealed beneath a layer of crust. I have to give props to whoever concocted Maryann's set soufflé because it was spectacular! I loved how it bled as it was consumed by Tara and Eggs. Tasty!!
I'll be making a quick an easy cherry dump cake as my mock recipe for Hunter's Souffle.

Mock Maryann's Hunter Soufflé Recipe
Layer ingredients in a souffle pan, (do not mix), in this order:
2 cans cherry pie filling
1 can crushed pineapple
1 box yellow cake mix, dry
2 sticks melted butter
Bake at 350 degrees unitl hot, bubbly and golden brown. Serve in pan.
Garnish with a heart!

The corner market in Bon Temps was running a close-out special on hearts yesterday, so I picked out a big, juicy one to whip up that new recipe of Maryann's that I've been dying to try, Hunter's Soufflé. This is a special treat with fresh hearts being such a rare find at the grocery store, but oddly enough, they're becoming a local favorite. I think I'll serve it up special next Sinday when I'm having a few guests over for the season finale of that lovely vampire show. You know the one, with that pretty little Southern Belle, Sookie Stackhouse. Care to join me?
