One of the memorable scenes of True Blood season 2 was Maryann's Hunter Soufflé, so when I was thinking of recipe and party ideas for the season finale tonight it was the obvious choice. Being a vegetarian (and a civilized person), the addition of a fresh human heart was thankfully out of the question. The ingredients need to a saucy, bloody red with some texture and chunks concealed beneath a layer of crust. I have to give props to whoever concocted Maryann's set soufflé because it was spectacular! I loved how it bled as it was consumed by Tara and Eggs. Tasty!!
I'll be making a quick an easy cherry dump cake as my mock recipe for Hunter's Souffle.

Mock Maryann's Hunter Soufflé Recipe
Layer ingredients in a souffle pan, (do not mix), in this order:
2 cans cherry pie filling
1 can crushed pineapple
1 box yellow cake mix, dry
2 sticks melted butter
Bake at 350 degrees unitl hot, bubbly and golden brown. Serve in pan.
Garnish with a heart!

The corner market in Bon Temps was running a close-out special on hearts yesterday, so I picked out a big, juicy one to whip up that new recipe of Maryann's that I've been dying to try, Hunter's Soufflé. This is a special treat with fresh hearts being such a rare find at the grocery store, but oddly enough, they're becoming a local favorite. I think I'll serve it up special next Sinday when I'm having a few guests over for the season finale of that lovely vampire show. You know the one, with that pretty little Southern Belle, Sookie Stackhouse. Care to join me?
